Hammer Toss and other Sports

Years before Lazy Horse was captured and subsequently joined his current party, the nomad barbarian had an apprentice.

Apprenticeship was tradition in his tribe. The apprentice assigned to Lazy Horse was known as Flatulent "Flats" Squirrel. When Flats was certain that he was stronger than Lazy Horse, Flats challenged him, and was promptly beaten down. Lazy Horse was heartbroken that his closest friend and ally would have thrown their relationship away for bravado. Flats disappeared from the tribe never to be seen again. Or so Lazy Horse thought.

After Lazy Horse and his newfound friends had freed themselves from their captors, they traveled to the nearby town. The party's members each needed to handle their own tasks. While relaxing in a tavern, Lazy Horse was approached by a man he hadn't seen in years, Flats!

Flats was a changed man. He left the nomadic tribe and found lucrative work with some shady characters in the underbelly of the town. Flats invited Lazy Horse on a mission into the storage house where there was word of valuables being held temporarily. Their nomadic tribe had no interest or connection to large populations, so an ethical dilemma in which stealing something from a warehouse simply did not exist.

They met again that evening at the warehouse, broke inside, and worked their way towards the center of the structure. They reached a clearing among all the boxes, when Flats turned to Lazy Horse and said, "I have been waiting years for this moment." Flats raised his hammer and attacked Lazy Horse. Lazy Horse knew he was stronger, but hurt again that Flats would be so spiteful. It was time to put this wounded dog down. Lazy Horse quickly gained the upper hand in one-on-one combat before a number of goblins rushed in to assist Flatulent Squirrel. The tide turned, until Lazy Horse's new gnome friend Lawngrim came bursting through the door to assist him. Lawngrim evened the score, picking off a few goblins. A heavily wounded Flats stood within reach of Lazy Horse. With a big swing to attempt a final blow, Lazy Horse missed so badly, his warhammer flung from his grasp and flew end over end across the warehouse.

It was time to run.

Clambering over mountains of boxes, Lazy Horse and Lawngrim could see the exit, but the little gnome was not fast enough to escape on his own. Lazy Horse turned to his friend, asking "how much do you weigh?"

"45 pounds...?"

Lazy Horse picked up his friend and threw him down the mountain of boxes toward the exit, before making his way down out the door to safety.

A Brave Backstory

A good backstory can establish a character's role in a party. It can paint a picture of your character's confidence and leadership.

Lazy Horse is a barbarian that lived with a relatively small nomadic tribe. Each member spends much of their time out on their own, but they all work together, with other surrounding allies, in the face of oppression.

One such case arose, when the tribe required action. Lazy Horse brazenly led they way into battle.

He rushed past his allies into the thick of enemy lines. Unfortunately he forgot a belt buckle that morning, as his trousers fell, he tripped over himself, and was immediately captured to be taken away as a slave.
